Stars Join Forces For 24 Hour Covid Benefit Concert

The likes of Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Lizzo, Metallica and loads more will join forces for an incredible 24-hour livestreamed concert to benefit global recovery after the pandemic! Here’s what you can expect.

Obviously the last 18-months or so have been a struggle for not only absolutely everyone, but for absolutely every industry too - however - the music industry is one that's perhaps not recovered as quickly as some one those around it. Specifically the preforming side of things. We are moving closer and closer to things becoming more normal and the lift on restrictions earlier this week as meant that there's more possibility that gigs will be back as we knew them pretty soon.

But the best in the industry are coming back swinging.

Lorde, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Lizzo, Doja Cat, BTS, Shawn Mendes, Camilla Cabello, Christine and the Queens, Burna Boy, Demi Lovato, Green Day and Usher (to name just a few) will be performing in a special concert which will help raise funds and secure pledges in the battle against COVID.

So, how will it work?

Performances will be streamed across the BBC, Twitter, YouTube and several streaming platforms for 24-hours. “Covid-19 has drastically reversed the progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, pushing upwards of 160 million people back into extreme poverty,” says Global Citizen chief executive Hugh Evans, announcing the event. “There are now more than 40 million people on the brink of famine.”

“Progress on climate change has halted,” he adds, “as the majority of the Fortune 500 fail to set science-based carbon reduction targets. We must rectify the damage done and hold world leaders and businesses accountable for ensuring that the entire world recovers from this pandemic together.”

It's really great to see a movement like this and we really can't wait to see these performances. What a spectacle it will be!
